Student Move-In will take place from Wednesday, August 26 through Sunday, August 30.
The campus community should anticipate increased traffic and rerouting on Wednesday, August 26, as student move-in begins. The increased traffic this activity brings may create traffic delays and will necessitate parking space closures and alterations to the city and U-M transit systems.
Traffic and Street Adjustments
The immediate vicinity of residence halls will see traffic-flow alterations from 7:30 AM – 8 PM, August 24-29. The following changes in traffic patterns and parking will be in place to accommodate U-M student move-in:
- South Division Street: One-way traffic flow southbound between East Hoover and Hill streets.
- Greene Street: One-way traffic flow northbound between East Hoover and Hill streets.
- Thompson: One-way southbound from East Jefferson to Packard and street parking bagged/reserved
- East Madison: One-way eastbound from Thompson to South State Street and street parking reserved. In addition, one-way traffic flow eastbound between South Division and Thompson streets.
- East Ann Street: One-way traffic flows eastbound from Zina Pitcher to Observatory streets.
- Observatory: One-way southbound from East Ann to Geddes and street parking reserved
- Washington Heights: Closed from Observatory to East Medical Center Drive and street parking reserved
Parking impacts
Most, if not all, parking meters in the immediate vicinity of residence halls will be bagged and reserved for students and families who display the proper move-in unloading permit.
Several university parking lots will be converted to move-in use ONLY for the duration of move-in.
University lots that will be impacted Monday, August 24 through Sunday, August 30 are as follows:
- Thompson Parking Structure
- Construction associated with LPR gate hardware will be paused during move-in to allow for increased traffic.
- Lot SC2 (Between Hoover and Greene Streets) will be controlled for move-in.
- Lot SC35 (Between Keech and E Hoover Streets) will be controlled for move-in.
- Lot SC36 (Keech at S Main Street) will be controlled for move-in.
- Lot SC41 (E Hoover off S Main Street) will be controlled for move-in.
University lots that will be impacted Wednesday, August 26 through Sunday, August 30 are as follows:
- Lot M28 (on Washington Heights)
- Lot M95 (just east of Markley Hall): west half of lot will be for move-in participants
- Lot E1 (on North University Court across from Stockwell Hall)
- NC2 & NC4 (Housing lots next to Bursley)
- NC31 (Housing lot north of Bursley)
- NC32 (Bursley/Baits, 20 spaces reserved for move-in participants.)
- Palmer Drive Parking Structure (N26): all visitor parking will be for move-in participants. Entry/exit gates will be open starting at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 26.
- Gold and Blue permit parkers can still use the visitor entrance lane to access parking.
- Construction associated with LPR gate hardware will be paused during move-in to allow for increased traffic.
- W16 (“Triangle”) Lot: Thompson at Madison and Packard will be controlled for move-in
Please note that Wall Street area structures have Blue parking availability for Medical Campus parkers who typically use M28 or M95.

Bus Route Adjustments
Both the Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority and U-M Logistics, Transportation & Parking will be modifying some bus routes to accommodate the changes in traffic flow. Please visit the AAATA rider alerts page and the LTP transit alerts page for details.
Uniformed Housing Security and university police officers will be on-site during move-in and will aid in maintaining efficient traffic flow in the residence hall areas.
