Logistics, Transportation & Parking is expanding the Commuter North and Commuter South bus routes this fall to improve frequency and transit capacity.
Heading into the fall semester, the Commuter North and Commuter South routes will double in frequency, add weekend service, and have some bus stop adjustments along the southern edge of Central Campus. These service upgrades are intended to increase overall transit capacity, reduce wait times across campus, and support new residential communities, including the students moving into Wolverine Village.
Transit Improvement Details
- Doubled Weekday Frequency: More buses running on both the Commuter North and Commuter South means you’ll see a bus twice as often on weekdays, dramatically reducing wait times and providing extra capacity for peak travel hours campus-wide. This extra service is scheduled to begin on August 31.
- New Weekend Service: Commuter routes will operate on weekends starting on August 23, offering reliable weekend connections across campus for students, faculty, and staff.
- Improvements near Wolverine Village: Adjustments to bus stops on East Hoover Avenue are being made to support residents at Wolverine Village. Also, additional pedestrian crosswalks will be installed the south end of Wolverine Village to improve access to the bus stops.

Recommendations for Wolverine Village Residents
With increased demand across the transit system, choosing the right mode of travel helps keep all of campus moving efficiently. Wolverine village is approximately a half mile from Central Campus. Biking to Central Campus is the fastest way to get there, and occasionally walking is faster than being caught in construction traffic on the bus. LTP recommends the following, based on your destination.
Central Campus: Walk or Bike
- Faster Than Driving or Transit: Biking to Central Campus takes less time than waiting for a bus or driving. Scooters are also a quick option that works well for trips to Central Campus.
- Direct & Active: A quick 10-minute walk or 3-minute bike ride gets you straight to class without relying on bus schedules.
North Campus & Medical Campus: Take the Commuter
For longer trips to North Campus or Medical Campus, the upgraded Commuter routes offer high-frequency, direct connections seven days a week.
Following these recommendations will help keep the transit system moving and working well for everyone in the university community.
