Business Vehicle Permit

Business Vehicle (BV) parking is available as an annual permit only. Parking is available in designated Business Vehicle spaces located in close proximity to U-M buildings. Also honored in any Blue, Yellow or Orange parking space. Vehicles leased from Fleet Services are considered business vehicles and may park accordingly.

Business Vehicle permits can be ordered by departments by using this form (login required)

Business Vehicle parking permits are intended:

  • As a parking option to be shared among department staff members. Permit(s) should be signed in and out daily by a departmental administrator. Example Tracking Form
  • To access designated University Business Vehicle parking spaces for short-term parking for meetings, messenger activities, etc.
  • For department use only to facilitate travel from offsite locations to campus core areas.
  • To provide a convenient parking option for individuals within a department with job responsibilities/duties requiring regular and frequent travel between on- and off-campus locations.
  • To be purchased in compliance with regulations for appropriate use of University and federal funds.

Business Vehicle parking options are NOT to be used:

  • For personal parking (an employee parking with their personal vehicle near their permanent or temporary work place, for the duration of their work shift).
    • If a department is located on the Ann Arbor Campus, individuals using the permit must purchase their own personal parking permits.
    • If your parking permit is a daily parking option, you are expected to park with your own personal permit first on the day for which you need to use the BV permit, then use your department’s BV permit.
    • Only departments located off-site, where no U-M parking permit is required, are exempt from requiring individuals to possess their own permit before using the BV permit for business travel.
  • For employees working off-site, but have a shift scheduled on campus where a permit is required. Example: employee who works off-site three days a week and has two days a week on campus. This employee would need to purchase a personal parking permit should they choose to park in a color-tiered parking area on campus. A BV permit should not be used.
  • To provide visitor/guest parking. 
  • For all-day parking.

Frequently Asked Questions: 

  • If I have a faculty/staff hang tag permit, how should I use the BV permit?
    • When using a BV in conjunction with a faculty/staff hang tag, the faculty/staff permit should remain on the rear view mirror and the BV permit should be displayed on the dashboard on the driver’s side, lower left. 
  • I’m not sure if my department is considered “off-site”.  How can I tell?
    • For parking purposes, departments are considered off-site if they are at a location where parking is not managed by LTP and U-M parking permits are not required to park. Examples include: Brighton Center for Specialty Care, East Ann Arbor Health and Geriatrics Center, Briarwood Family Medicine.

Business Vehicle permits have a chip embedded in the permit which will raise the gates upon entry/exit at parking structures. It is important to have the permit hanging from the rear-view mirror at all times while in the parking structure. Please do not bend the permits.
