Accident

  1. Make sure all vehicle occupants are safe
  2. Call 911 to report the accident and alert the local authorities
  3. If anyone is injured, contact Risk Management at (734) 764-2200
  4. Contact LTP Fleet Garage at (734) 764-2490(M-F 6:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.) Or Department of Public Safety and Security at (734) 763-1131 (after hours or weekends)
  5. Get proof of insurance and vehicle registration (blue card) from the glove box for police
  6. Be sure to get the police officer’s name, report number and any other important information
  7. Within 48 hours, complete and submit the Driver’s Report of Vehicle Damage or Public Incident form

Drop off

Upon return, park the vehicle in a space designated for Rental Vehicle Only or in any yellow or orange space in SC5 or SC6 (lots just east of Michigan Stadium).  Drop the vehicle keys either in the drop box just outside the door in the Fleet Service building or in the drop box just outside the gate in the Transportation Service building.

Fueling

All vehicles are fueled upon return to Fleet Services.  Our fuel is typically $.30 per gallon cheaper than retail stations.  If you need fuel to get back to Ann Arbor, we recommend filling up with just enough fuel to make it back to campus.  Your department is charged for the fuel along with the daily rental fee.

Off campus – retail fuel station – get a receipt and write U-M vehicle number on the receipt

Insurance

U-M is self-insured and carries personal protection, residual liability and property protection insurance.  The program has statutory limits with an “All States” endorsement. View the insurance certificate.

Parking

All U-M vehicles must park on U-M property when not in use.  All U-M vehicles have parking privileges in all U-M parking lots except : Gold spaces, Service vehicle (SV) parking space, Fire lanes, Loading areas, Posted handicap spaces, Assigned or designated permit spaces, Meter parking without “feeding the meter” – you must pay, Forest Street Parking Structure – city owned

Pick up

Fleet Service is located on South Campus at 1209 Kipke Drive in the modular building north of Transportation Services – just east of Michigan Stadium and Crisler Center.

You will need to be a U-M approved driver and present a valid drivers license in order to pick up the vehicle.

Fleet Services is open Monday – Friday 6:30 am until 5:00 pm.

Roadside Assistance

Contracted service through Verizon Networkfleet – call (866) 227-7323 option #1

Verizon will send a local towing service to assist you with battery boost, flat tire repair, fuel delivery, locksmith service, towing and winch services.
