The new Wall Street West Parking Structure is scheduled to open January 13, after a brief construction pause in the spring due to the pandemic.
Built over a 130-space surface parking lot, the structure adds around 1,100 Blue spaces for U-M employees. The opening has also made way for an additional 40 patient parking spaces in the K2 lot adjacent to Brehm Tower.
The seven-story structure on Wall Street and Maiden Lane is within walking distance of the main Medical Campus and served by several bus routes.
It shares a covered bus stop with the Wall Street East Parking Structure and also offers motorcycle and moped parking. Sustainability features include energy-efficient LED lighting controlled by occupancy sensors and photocells and park-like landscaping with trees and gardens for storm-water management.
Vehicles can enter and exit at both Maiden Lane and Wall Street, and a new traffic signal at the intersection of Nielsen Court and Maiden Lane helps support the area’s recent developments. In addition, Logistics, Transportation & Parking will pilot new access control equipment and gates at the structure that are compatible with existing faculty and staff permits.
